IoT-based Smart Building Monitoring
The Challenge
A non-government cultural institution pursuing LEED certification and ESG reporting had an existing Allen Bradley PLC-based SCADA system, but data was only visible on a single PC in the control room. Dashboards were not mobile-friendly, there was no automated reporting for sustainability audits, and the organisation couldn't display live building metrics in the lobby for visitor engagement.
The Solution
YuDash deployed a LYNX IoT gateway as a Modbus TCP/IP client reading the Allen Bradley PLC's register map every 10 minutes over an independent 4G connection — zero changes to the existing SCADA. Data flows to the YuFourIA cloud platform where role-based dashboards are accessible from any device. Automated weekly PDF reports are emailed to the sustainability team, anomaly alerts flag water leaks and energy losses, and a large TV in the lobby displays live building metrics.
How It Works
Data flow from field to cloud
Allen Bradley PLC (existing SCADA)
No modifications required
YuDash LYNX
Modbus TCP/IP client, independent 4G
4G/LTE
Air-gapped from main IT network
YuFourIA Platform
Dashboards, PDF reports, anomaly alerts
Results
- Mobile dashboards accessible from laptops and phones — not just the control room PC
- Automated weekly PDF sustainability reports for LEED compliance
- Lobby TV display driving visitor engagement with live building metrics
- Zero changes to existing SCADA — no cybersecurity risk to main network
