Lake Water Level Monitoring
The Challenge
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) required accurate, time-stamped water level monitoring for Powai Lake in Mumbai. Their existing setup had no remote visibility, no automated alerting, and no integration with the city's FTP-based data infrastructure — field staff had to physically read gauges and manually log data.
The Solution
YuDash deployed the LYNX48 data logger connected to a VEGAPULS WL61 non-contact radar sensor. The LYNX reads the 4–20 mA analog signal, applies configurable data scaling to convert the current value into water level in meters, logs it locally with a timestamp, and pushes CSV files to BMC's FTP server every 15 minutes over a 4G/LTE M2M SIM. Local storage and automatic backfill ensure no data loss during network outages.
How It Works
Data flow from field to cloud
VEGAPULS WL61 Radar Sensor
Non-contact water level via 4–20 mA
YuDash LYNX48
Analog input, data scaling, local logging
4G/LTE M2M SIM
Automatic reconnection with backfill
BMC FTP Server
Timestamped CSV every 15 minutes
Results
- Eliminated daily manual gauge readings by field staff
- Automated FTP delivery with zero data loss on network failure
- Scalable to additional lake monitoring points with the same config
